requently Asked Questions
Do your products really work?
Yes! Botanical oils, butters, and powders contain powerful chemical constituents such as polyphenols, flavonoids, retinoids, etc. that are known to have powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that neutralize free radicals, hence, fighting key signs of aging. When these constituents are used in their inherent form, they synergistically support and enhance each other, magnifying their individual properties in ways that isolated or synthetically reproduced compounds do not. Properly nourished, moisturized and exfoliated skin cells appear fuller which results in minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This naturally leaves your skin looking radiant and more youthful. The normal signs of aging can only be corrected by surgeries, but premature signs due to the environment, overexposure to the sun and lack of hydration can be minimized so skin appears smoother and softer.
How can your products not have preservatives? Our products do contain preservatives, just not synthetic ones. All of our products are purely botanical oil based which allows Conscious Choice to use only natural preservatives, such as Rosemary and Vitamin E. For more benefits and properties about our ingredients, please refer to our Ingredient Encyclopedia.
How do your products get their beautiful colors?
The colors are created by the ingredients themselves. Botanical powders, butters, oils and the specific salts we use all contribute to their color. We have spent a great deal of time choosing the most beneficial ingredients. Their beautiful colors are the icing on the cake.
Why do you have both Leaping Bunny and PETA Logos?
Leaping Bunny is more recognized in Europe and PETA is more recognized in the United States. For more information, please check out our Certifications.
How do you test your products if you don’t test on animals?
Our products are only tested on willing participants, friends, and family. All of our individual ingredients have been used by humankind for thousands of years for various healthcare and beauty benefits.
Do you have a store?
Not at this time.
What does the open jar symbol with a 6M or 12M mean on each of your products?
Period After Opening (PAO) is commonly used in Europe. The number indicates how many months we recommend the product be used by once it has been opened.
Why does the consistency of your products vary throughout the year?
Conscious Choice does not use thickeners, emulsifiers or stabilizers, hence our products are susceptible to consistency changes during shipping in extreme temperatures. We have formulated our products to be the perfect consistency when they are at a room temperature between 69-89 degrees, so once they are in your home and have warmed up or cooled down, they will return to their proper consistency. Please note that when temperatures are cooler, products will be a little firmer and when warmer temperatures prevail, your products will be a little softer.
Why do your prices vary on products in the same category?
Essential oils vary greatly in price due to the rarity of the plant, method of extraction, how much oil it produces, and the amount of effort it takes to harvest the plant material used.
Why does Conscious Planet LLC show up on my credit/debit card statement?
Conscious Planet LLC is Conscious Choice’s parent company.
Why is it important to purchase organic products?
The long-term, cumulative effects of chemicals are not completely known yet. In this day and age, you cannot escape toxic chemicals and pollution. By using organic products, you can reduce exposure to some of these harmful toxins.
Why is it important to purchase products displaying the USDA Certified Organic Seal?
The USDA Certified Organic Seal ensures that the product you are buying is actually an organic product, not just containing a few organic ingredients. Certified organic products have strict ingredient, production, and labeling requirements. It is a tedious but necessary process that ensures the customer that the finished product is indeed organic. There are many advertisements and product labels that contain the words “organic”, “made with organic”, or “all natural” when they are not truly organic. By companies not going through the process of certification, the consumer may end up purchasing a product that contains only a few organic ingredients, not an actual organic product. The USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) prohibits the use of harmful toxins such as aluminum, EDTA, GMOs, nanoparticles, petrochemicals, parabens, synthetic colors or fragrances, propylene glycol, or Triclosan. For more information about the USDA certification process, organic categories and what they mean, please refer to Certification Tab.
Why do your labels say Certified Organic by Organic Certifiers and not the USDA?
Organic Certifiers is the accredited USDA certifying agency that certifies Conscious Choice labels.
Why do you say your products are USDA Certified Organic Compliant, not just USDA certified organic?
Technically, the USDA does not directly certify anything. The certification process is conducted by an independent USDA accredited agency. The accredited agency actually does the certifying process in compliance with USDA regulations. Organic Certifiers is the accredited USDA certifying agency that certifies Conscious Choice labels.
Why do your ingredients have asterisks?
The asterisk denotes that the ingredient is certified organic.
Why do some of your ingredients not have asterisks?
The ingredients without asterisks are on a short list of USDA approved ingredients that cannot be certified organic because they are not grown agriculturally (salt, for example). For more information on these ingredients, please refer to USDA website.
What is a Buttercream?
Conscious Choice has chosen to call our unique skin care products “Buttercreams.” They are thicker than a cream and more lightweight than a typical face/body butter. Our Signature Buttercreams have the distinctive consistency of buttercream frosting.
Can I use Body Buttercream on my face?
We do not recommend it. Our Body Buttercream is formulated with nourishing cocoa butter. It is a deeply moisturizing botanical butter for your body, but we feel it is too comedogenic for your face.
What is a scrub/polish?
They are both products containing exfoliating materials (such as salt, sugar, coffee grounds, seeds, ground walnut hulls) usually mixed with oils or gel. Their purpose is to exfoliate dead, dry skin promoting cell regeneration while moisturizing the skin. All Conscious Choice Scrubs and Polishes combine our Signature Buttercream with mineral-rich sea salt. They leave your skin looking radiant and feeling velvety-soft.
What is the difference between a scrub and polish?
The true distinguishing factor between a scrub and a polish comes from how the treatments are performed in a spa setting. A scrub is followed by an esthetician washing off the exfoliant as part of the treatment. Whereas a polish is usually followed by the client being led to a separate room to rinse themselves off. Since our scrubs and polishes are meant to be used in the privacy of your own home, Conscious Choice differentiates them by the size of the exfoliant.
Why do you make your scrubs and polishes with salt and not sugar?
The minerals and detoxifying properties that salt contains are unparalleled. Since it is taken into the shower where water inevitably gets into the jar, salt also acts as a natural preservative.
Can I use Conscious Choice Body Scrub on my face?
We do not recommend it. The grain size of the sea salt we use in our body scrubs we feel is too coarse. It may harm the delicate skin on your face.
How often should I use a scrub or polish?
Overuse of any scrub or polish can lead to irritation and dry, flaky skin. Every skin type is different. We recommend using a scrub or a polish 2-3 times a week for the best results. Find the frequency that achieves the best results for you.
Can I keep my scrub in the shower?
Yes! We are very proud of the fact that our scrubs can be taken into the shower. Our scrubs are packaged in our innovative, water-repellant, cardboard Eco Jars that are compostable, biodegradable and recyclable. However, we do not recommend letting the jar sit in water. Also, limiting excess water from getting inside the jar will maintain your Body Scrub in its Buttercream consistency.
What is the difference between antiperspirant vs. deodorant?
Perspiring is your body’s natural way of flushing out toxins and regulating temperature. Deodorants don’t interfere with this process; instead, they work by neutralizing odor-causing bacteria, thus preventing odors. Antiperspirants, on the other hand, work by plugging your pores with processed aluminum compounds to keep you from sweating. These toxic aluminum compounds are absorbed through the skin. Studies have linked processed aluminum compounds to cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and other illnesses.
